Abstract

Asystasia gangetica (L.) T. Anderson is a weed commonly found on oil palm plantations and can be used as cover crop for mature oil palm plantations due to its tolerance to shading. The use of cover crop is a soil conservation technique to support sustainable availability of soil nutrients by reducing erosion and nutrients loss, particularly during the rainy seasons. This research aims to determine the roles of A. gangetica as cover crop for measures against erosion and nutrients loss in mature oil palm plantation. This research was conducted in oil palm plantation, Unit Rejosari, PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) VII, District of Natar, South Lampung Regency from August 2014 to April 2015. The research used split block design in randomized complete block design with two factors and six replications. The main plots were ridge terrace, namely with and without ridge terrace. The sub plots were cover crops, namely with and without cover crops A. gangetica. The results show that using A. gangetica as cover crops in mature oil palm plantations effectively minimized erosion and loss of organic C, N, P, and K by 95.7%, 93.4%, 96.0%, and 90.0 %, respectively. The use of cover crop became more effective when combined with ridge terrace and reduced erosion by 94.1%, and loss of organic C, N, P and K by 99.1%, 99.2%, 90.0% and 98.5%, respectively.

OPTIMALISASI PRODUKSI JAGUNG MANIS DENGAN PEMBERIAN PUPUK BERIMBANG ORGANIK DAN ANORGANIK

ABSTRAK

Produktivitas jagung manis saat ini belum mencapai hasil optimal, sehingga dibperlukan upaya untuk meningkatkannya, salah satunya melalui pemupukan berimbang organik dan anorganik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pemupukan berimbang organik dan anorganik yang tepat untuk meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan produksi jagung manis. Penelitian dilaksanakan di kebun percobaan Balai Benih Induk Kabupaten Deli Serdang, Sumatera Utara menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) satu Faktor dengan tiga ulangan. Pemupukan berimbang organik dan anorganik yang diberikan terdiri dari 9 taraf, yaitu :100 kg/ha NPK + 5 t/ha pupuk kandang sapi diberikan pada saat tanam, 100 kg/ha NPK + 10 t/ha pupuk kandang sapi diberikan pada satu minggu sebelum tanam, 100 kg/ha NPK + 15 t/ha pupuk kandang sapi diberikan pada pada dua minggu sebelum tanam, 200 kg/ha NPK + 5 t/ha pupuk kandang sapi diberikan pada saat tanam, 200 kg/ha NPK + 10 t/ha pupuk kandang sapi diberikan satu minggu sebelum tanam, 200 kg/ha NPK + 15 t/ha pupuk kandang sapi diberikan pada dua minggu sebelum tanam, 300 kg/ha NPK + 5 t/ha pupuk kandang sapi diberikan pada saat tanam, 300 kg/ha NPK + 10 t/ha pupuk kandang sapi diberikan satu minggu sebelum tanam, dan 300 kg NPK + 15 t/ha pupuk kandang sapi diberikan pada dua minggu sebelum tanam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian pupuk berimbang organik dan anorganik dengan dosis 200 kg/ha NPK + 10 t/ha pupuk kandang sapi yang diberikan satu minggu sebelum tanaman mampu menghasilkan berat tongkol dan panjang tongkol tertinggi dibandingkan perlakuan lainnya. Berdasarkan pemetaan dua dimensi, produksi jagung manis yang meliputi berat tongkol, diameter tongkol dan panjang tongkol dipengaruhi oleh jumlah daun dibandingkan tinggi tanaman.

Utilization andaliman (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC) for producing plant essential oils

Abstract

Andaliman (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC) is one of the most widely used herbs in Toba Samosir and North Tapanuli, North Sumatera, at an altitude of 1,500 m asl, found growing wild in the Tapanuli area and used as spices in traditional Batak Angkola and Batak Mandailing. Beside North Sumatra, andaliman belonging to the family Rutaceae (family of oranges) is also found in India, China, and Tibet. This study was aimed to study the role of andaliman plants as a source of essential oils. Research method used was literature review from various resources, then understand, analyze, and discussed the results. The results of literature studies shown that andaliman are widely used as cooking spices for various cuisines because the content of citrus-colored citrus oil and has a spicy flavor like pepper. In addition, the essential oil from andaliman can also be used as an antimicrobial that can be utilizedasafoodpreservative.

Abstract

The research’s objective is to study the effect of PEG bases alternative stimulant to increase production and physiological character of Clone PB 260. This research was conducted at Sungai Putih Farm, Rubber Research Center, Deli Serdang Regency, Province of North Sumatera. The altitude is 25 m above sea level with Ultisol soil type. This research was to study the difference of production parameters g/p/s, inorganic phosphate, sucrose content, and Thiol. The results showed that the stimulants was significantly affect and increased production, but show no significant effect to increase the concentration of sucrose and Thiol. PEG application can also encourage increased production and inorganic phosphate although has no significant effect but increasing the levels of sucrose and Thiol. Combination of stimulants and PEG is increase on the production and inorganic phosphates parameters.

Abstract

Asystasia gangetica (L.) T. Anderson or white flower is an invasive weeds that most growing within mature palm oil plantation, but it’s potential as cover crop because of kindly growth on soil with low fertility, ability to grow under shade, checks and prevents soil erosion, and as biological control ulat kantong (Metisa plana). The research were conducted to determine A.gangetica potential as cover crop within mature palm oil plantation. The research was done within Mature Palm Oil Plantation Cikabayan-University Farm Bogor Agricultural University TM-14 from March 2014 to August 2014. The research shown that soil covering percentage, crop growth rate, and plant height are higher in spacing plant 10 cm x 10 cm, whereas the number of branches, and alive plant percentage are higher in spacing plant 40 cm x 40 cm. The decompotition rate shown that Asystasia gangetica is higher high intensity than low intensity.

STUDY OF GROWTH AND YIELD OF WATERMELON WITH AWARDING OF THE MULCH AND GOAT MANURE IN THE PADDY FIELDS OF NORTH SUMATERA, INDONESIA

Abstract

Create free trade between countries in the impact of globalization of trade competition tighter, especially on horticulture. The study aimed to identify the type of mulch and dosage of manure for promoting growth and watermelon in the paddy fields that have been carried out in Paya Itik Dusun 3 Village, Galang, Deli Serdang, North Sumatera on Februari to April 2016. The research was a field experiment using a split plot design in a randomized block design of two factor three replications. Mulch as the main plot consists of: mulch straw, silverblack polyethylene, black-silver polyethylene, and goat manure dosage as the sub plot consisting of: 0 t/Ha, 10 t/Ha, 20 t/Ha, and 30 t/Ha. The results showed that silver-black polyethylene mulch and manure dosage of 30 t/Ha resulted in plant length, number of productive internode, and fruit weight per plot of the highest watermelon plants. The silver-black polyethylene mulch treatment is also able to suppress the attack of pests and diseases of watermelon plants, and is able to suppress weed growth.

Study of Asystasia gangetica (L.) T. Anderson as Cover Crop Against Soil Water Content in Mature Oil Palm Plantation

Abstract Background and Objective: The study of cover crop in oil palm plantation is more emphasized on its function as soil and water conservation. Cover crop utilization is one of agronomic practice to protect soil surface from any damage caused by rainfall on to the soil surface. Rooting system of the cover crop is able to hold the rain water and in turn maintaining soil water content. This study is aimed to study the effect of Asystasia gangetica ( A. gangetica ) as cover crop in mature oil palm plantation toward soil water content. Materials and Methods: Research was conducted in mature oil palm plantation. The experiment was conducted by constructing 4×2 m experimental plot between rows of oil palm. The experiment consisted of 2 levels of treatment namely planting cover crop A. gangetica and without planting cover crop. It was repeated 3 times. Hydrological parameter data, precipitation, initial soil water content (SWC), SWC during the experiment at specified soil depth (10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 cm) were observed from each trial plot. Soil water content (SWC) was measured using a sensor that connected with GardSens. Results: The results showed that A. gangetica
caused soil water dynamics at the depth 0-20 cm that was at rhizosphere of cover crop. This has a good impact on the water availability of oil palm especially in dry periods when the rate of rainfall less than 60 mm/month. Conclusion: It was concluded that cover crop was able to conserve rain water and increased the water infiltration into the soil. This indicates that cover crop was potentially used to maintain and improve the availability of water requirement for the oil palm plantation.

Natural and environmental resources have usable values that can be calculated using traditional calculation methods, indirect use values, future value and non-consumer benefits. Economic valuation techniques to determine the economic value of an area, is done by calculating the reception, the calculation of non-acceptance, market-based techniques, techniques based on cost, engineering cost of the trip, the contingent valuation method.

Abstract

The objectives of this study is to study formulation of PEG based alternative stimulant to increase latex production and physiologically safe for clones PB 260. This research was conducted at Sungei Putih Research Center, Rubber Research Center, Deli Serdang Regency, Province of North Sumatera and PTPD Paya Pinang, Tebing Tinggi, North Sumatera. The study uses 6 year-old of rubber clone PB 260 to determine differences in some parameter such as production (g/p/s), inorganic phosphate, sucrose and thiol levels. The results showed that stimulants have significant effect on production (g/p/s) and inorganic phosphate. PEG applications can encourage increased production (g/p/s) and inorganic phosphate. The combination of stimulant and PEG has very significant effect on production (g/p/s) and inorganic phosphate.

Agronomic Characteristics of Mustard ( Brassica juncea L.) on the Application of Fertilizer Solution and Flannel Size at Wick Hydroponic System

Abstract

The aimed of the study is to determine the agronomic characteristics of mustard cultivated hydroponically using wick system on the application of liquid fertilizer and flannel size. The research was conducted at screen house of the Faculty of Agriculture, Islamic University of North Sumatera, Medan as long as January-February 2016. The research is field experiments, using two-factor completely randomized design with three replications. The first factor is concentration of liquid fertilizer, consisted of 0.0 mL/L, 2.5 mL/L, 5.0 mL/L, and 7.5m L/L of water, and the second factor is widths of flannel cloth, consisted of 1 cm, 2 cm, and 3 cm. The results showed that concentration of liquid fertilizer at 7.5 mL/L of water and 1 cm of flannel has the highest plant height, leaf number, leaf area, knop diameter, and fresh weight. Based on the scatter plot, fresh weight is more influenced by the knop diameter than plant height, leaf number, and leaf area.

ABSTRACT

Nutrient recycling and mineral balance are important factors affecting nutrient budgets in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) plantations. The nutrient budget includes processes such as plant uptake, removal by harvesting, accumulation or storage in the standing plant, and recycling through decomposition of cover crop Asystasia gangetica (L.) T. Anderson can be utilized as cover crops in mature oil palm plantations with appropriate management. This study aimed to examine the growth of A. gangetica in 17 yr old oil palm plantations with different populations, understanding the contribution of A. gangetica to improve available nutrient in the plantation on the nutrient balance, and to study its role as cover crop in the mature oil palm plantation. The experiment was conducted in an experiment field of 17 yr old of mature oil palm at Bogor, Indonesia. Results showed that A. gangetica can be used as cover crops in mature oil palm plantations because it meets several conditions such as rapidly covering the land (11 wk after planting), and able to increase the available N, P, K as much as 18.49%, 9.20%, 38.36%, respectively, based on the nutrient balance with the optimum population is 1 000 000 plants ha-1.

Decomposition and release rate of asystasiagangetica (l.) T. Anderson litter nutrient using litterbag method

Abstract

The research aimed to determine the rate of decomposition and release of A. gangetica litter in conditions without shading and shading, and in turn it can be simulated the effects of environmental factors on the decomposition rate and contribution of A. gangeticalitter nutrients to the soil. Research was carried out at Research Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, UISU, Medan, North Sumatra, from January to April 2018. The study used a non-factorial randomized block design with five replications. The treatment is shade which consisting of two levels namely without shading, and with 50% shading. The results showed that the litter weight of A. gangetica decreases with the length of the decomposition period. The decrease in litter weight of A. gangetica is more influenced by the decomposition period than the shade treatment. However, decomposition rate, decreased nutrient concentration in litter tissue, and increased litter release of A. gangetica is affected by shading and decomposition period. Decomposition rate, decrease in litter concentration and release of litter nutrients more quickly in conditions without shadingby the longer decomposition period.

ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dosis kompos dan cekaman air terhadap pertumbuhan vegetatif bibit kelapa sawit di pembibitan awal. penelitian ini dilaksanakan di lahan pertanian rakyat Desa Tumpatan Nibung Kecamatan Batang Kuis Tanjung Morawa dengan ketinggaian tempat 20mdpl, dengan topografi datar. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bualan Juni 2009 sampai dengan September 2009.

Penelitian ini menggunakan pola Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) faktorial dnegan 3 ulangan dan 2 faktor  yang di teliti. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa dosis kompos 50 gfpolbek serta tanpa cekaman air menunjukan hasil terbaik bagi tumbuhan bibit kelapa sawit di pembibitan awal.

Penelitian ini bertujuan  untuk mempelajari potensi beberapa gulma sebagai tanaman penutup tanah di perkebunanan kelapa sawit menghasilkan. Penelitian dilaksanakan di perkebunanan kelapa sawit rakyat umur 20 tahun di desa Namorambe kecamatan naorambe, Kabupaten Deli Serdang, Sumatera Utara dari maret sampai juni 2017.

Exploitation System Based on Leaves Development Dynamic of Clones BPM 1 in North Sumatera, Indonesia

ABSTRACT

Latex Production of rubber is highly influenced by applied exploitation system and annual rainfall pattern. Different annual rainfall pattern causes latex peak production follow the dynamics of leaves development. This research aims to determine the effect of physiology and latex production of clone BPM 1 on applied exploitation system according to the dynamic of leaves development. This research was conducted at two locations, namely Indonesian Rubber Research Institute Sungai Putih, North Sumatera and PT. Perkebunan Nusantara III, North Sumatra Regency from August 2014 to July 2015. The research uses Split Block Design in a randomized complete block design with three replications and two factors. The main plot is exploitation system, comprising
of two levels namely downward tapping on quarter-spiral (S/4d3), and upward tapping on quarter-spiral (S/4Ud3). The subplots are stimulant application, consisting of four levels
namely ethephon 2.5% applied once for 15 days (ET/15d), gas stimulant applied once for 9 days (ETG/9d), gas stimulant applied once for 18 days (ETG/18d), and gas stimulant applied once for 27 days (ETG/27D). The results show that annual rainfall patterns affect the dynamic of leaves
development and divide the development phase of the rubber leaves into leaf fall, leaf flush and leaf mature. The optimum exploitation systems of clones BPM 1 to increase latex production is upward tapping on quarter-spiral (S/4U), application of stimulant with ethephon (ET) at leaf fall, and gas stimulants (ETG) at leaf flush and leaf mature.

Effect of seedling number per hill and seedling agenon plant growth and grain yield ciherang rice

Abstract

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is an important plant as one of the main food sources in Indonesia. Efforts to increase the productivity of rice conducted with intensification, by intensifying the use of seedling number per hill and seedling age while transplanting. The research were conducted to determine the effects of seedling number per hill and seedling age on plant growth, and grain yield Ciherang rice. The research was done at UPT. Balai Benih Induk (BBI) Perdamean village Tanjung Morawa from March 2012 to June 2012. Reducing seedling number per hill from 5 to 3 and 1 respectively, increased plant growth and grain yield significantly. Increasing seedling age from 7 to 14 and 21 days resulted in significant increasing plant growth and grain yield. In general, transplanting 7-21
day-old seedlings at one seedling per hill increased plant growth and grain yield Ciherang rice.

Study of Asystasia gangetica (L.) Anderson Utilization as Cover Crop under Mature Oil Palm with Different Ages

Abstract

Asystasia gangetica (L.) Anderson is a kind of weed often found not only under immature oil palm plantation but also under mature oil palm plantation. A.gangetica can grow well in soil with a low fertility rate and under shaded condition, so that it can be used as a cover crop under mature oil palm plantation with different ages. The experiment was conducted under mature oil palm plantation the age of 5 years old (TM-2) and 17 years old (TM-14), in Cikabayan University Farm, IPB Bogor, West Java, from March 29 to 21 September 2014. The result showed that A.gangetica can be utilized as a cover crop under mature oil palm plantations (TM-2 and TM-14) since it is able to grow well in the two locations, improving soil physical and chemical properties and increasing soil moisture and nutrient availability through the rapid litter decomposition (decomposed within 30 days) and the release of litter nutrients nearly 100% within 30 days. Therefore, A.gangetica can be used for the implementation of sustainable oil palm plantations in accordance with the principles and rules of the RSPO and ISPO.

Relationship between Latex Production and Physiology of Rubber Clone Pb 260

Abstract

Dominant physiological characteristics of latex in Latex formation are sucrose content, inorganic phosphate, and thiol levels. Relationship between latex physiology character and factors influencing production of latex was examined in 10 years old of clone PB 260. This research aims to study and obtain data on latex physiological characteristics which considered relate to production and find out physiological characters that have significant correlation and direct effect on rubber production. The research site is Sei Putih Farm, PT. Perkebunan Nusantara III is Regency of Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Clone PB 260 with planting space 2.5 m x 5 m was used as plant material in this study. Every treatment is used 75 trees with girth 65 cm – 70 cm. Based on statistical analysis, in May, June and July, sucrose levels had positive effect on latex production, while Pi and thiol had negative relationship, except in June Pi had a positive effect. In May, latex production is influenced by sucrose, Pi, and thiol by 32.5%, June 27.5% and July 38.5%.

Abstract

Indonesia is known as a country with high biodiversity in the world. Plenty of beneficial-rich plants grow in Indonesia as a country that has tropical climate, one of the plant is tarum (Indigofera tinctoria Linn.). Tarum is a natural dye-producing plant whose presence is not widely known. The development of human needs, especially in meeting the needs of natural dyes, is considered to be the main reason for reintroducing tarum as a suitable plant to grow in Indonesia. The use of natural dyes in addition to being safe for humans is also safe for the environment, considering the substances produced by the tarum plant are widely used as textile dyes. Good enough environmental compatibility makes this plant actually spread in many parts of Indonesia, especially in Java. It is necessary to possess a knowledge about the right cultivation techniques for tarum plants in an effort to increase the color-producing substances in plants. The attempts to obtain information about cultivation techniques are an opportunity to re-raise these plants to be better known and developed as potential plants.

Peran konservasi tanah terhadap cadangan karbon tanah, bahan organik, dan pertumbuhan kelapa sawit (Elaeis guineensis jacq.)

Abstrak

Penerapan konservasi tanah di perkebunan kelapa sawit dapat dilakukan secara vegetatif dan mekanik. Secara vegetatif dengan memanfaatkan tanaman yang banyak tumbuh di bawah tegakan kelapa sawit seperti Asystasia gangetica dan Nephrolepis biserrata sebagai tanaman penutup tanah, sedangkan secara mekanik dengan memotong panjang lereng melalui pembuatan teras gulud. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui peran konservasi tanah terhadap cadangan karbon tanah, bahan organik, dan pertumbuhan kelapa sawit. Penelitian dilaksanakan dari Agustus 2014-April 2015 di perkebunan kelapa sawit (tahun tanam 2005) PTPN VII, Lampung Selatan. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan tersarang faktorial dengan enam ulangan tersarang di dalam perlakuan. Perlakuan terdiri dari teras gulud (tanpa teras gulud; dengan teras gulud), dan tanaman penutup tanah (tanpa tanaman penutup tanah; N.biserrata;A.gangetica). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan penerapan konservasi tanah menggunakan tanaman penutup tanah dan teras gulud di perkebunan kelapa sawit meningkatkan cadangan karbon dan bahan organik tanah dibandingkan tanpa konservasi tanah, berturut-turut sebesar 4.44 t/ha dan 0.69% (N. biserrata tanpa teras gulud); 5.28 t/ha dan 0.83% (A. gangetica tanpa teras gulud); 7.04 t/ha dan 1.10% (teras gulud tanpa tanaman penutup tanah); 10.45 t/ha dan 1.64% (N. biserrata dengan teras gulud); 11.33 t/ha dan 1.78% (A. gangetica tanpa teras gulud). Penerapan konservasi tanah juga berpengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan kelapa sawit, terutama rataan panjang rachis dan jumlah pelepah sengkleh.

Kelapa sawit merupakan salah satu tanaman perkebunan yang mempunyai peran penting bagi subsektor perkebunan. Sesuai dengan kebijakan Pemerintah, pengembangan perkebunan kelapa sawit diarahkan ke kawasan Timur Indonesia yang memiliki potensi lahan sedang sampai rendah untuk pengembangan kelapa sawit, terutama daerah yang beriklim lebih kering dengan bulan kering lebih panjang dan curah hujan lebih rendah, yang dapat menyebabkan tanaman mengalami cekaman kekeringan, sehingga perlu dicari bibit kelapa sawit yang toleran terhadap cekaman kekeringan dengan melihat karakter morfologi dan fisiologinya. Beberapa hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karakter morfologi bibit kelapa sawit yang toleran terhadap cekaman kekeringan adalah daunnya mengalami kelayuan dan menggulung, kadar air daun menurun, luas daun spesifik lebih rendah, akar lebih panjang dengan volume akar yang tinggi, sedangkan karakter fisiologi bibit kelapa sawit yang toleran terhadap cekaman kekeringan adalah ditunjukkan dengan peningkatan kandungan prolin bebas pada daun bibit kelapa sawit yang cukup tinggi, demikian pula kadar ABA pada bibit kelapa sawit meningkat sejalan dengan semakin lama diberi cekaman kekeringan, sedangkan kadar gula osmotikal tidak banyak dipengaruhi oleh cekaman kekeringan pada bibit kelapa sawit.

ABSTRAK

Penerapan pedoman teknis budidaya dengan memenuhi kaidah konservasi tanah dan air, tanggung jawab lingkungan, dan keanekaragaman hayati adalah dengan memanfaatkan gulma yang banyak tumbuh di perkebunan kelapa sawit sebagai tanaman penutup tanah. Asystasia gangetica (L.) T. Anderson merupakan noxius weed yang banyak dijumpai di perkebunan kelapa sawit di Indonesia dan Malaysia. Gulma ini belum dimanfaatkan karena termasuk salah satu noxius weed dan gulma invasif di perkebunan kelapa sawit, sehingga sering dikendalikan. Gulma ini dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai tanaman penutup tanah dalam fungsinya sebagai konservasi tanah dan air secara vegetatif di perkebunan kelapa sawit menghasilkan karena toleran terhadap naungan bahkan sampai tingkat naungan 90%, mengandung 1.5% N, 0.2% P, 1.8% K pada bagian akar, 2.2% N, 0.3% P, 6.9% K pada bagian daun, dan 2.0% N, 0.3% P, 5.6% K pada bagian batang, cepat menutup lahan (11-35 MST) dan cepat terdekomposisi (30 hari), sebagai cadangan karbon biomasa (1.4 t C ha-1 tahun-1) dan juga cadangan karbon tanah (39.5 t C ha-1) serta mampu memperbaiki sifat fisik dan biologi tanah, mampu meningkatkan 43.7% N, 112.5% P, dan 162.6% K dibandingkan tanpa tanamanpenutup tanah melalui neraca haranya, serta efektif menekan erosi dan kehilangan bahan organik serta hara pada saat musim hujan.

ABSTRACT : Asystasia gangetica (L.) T. Anderson is a weed that commonly found in oil palm plantations and can be used as cover crop in mature oil palm plantations because of shadetolerant. This study aimed to determine the role of Asystasia gangetica (L.) T. Anderson as cover cover through its function in improving soil physical and chemical properties in mature oil palm as the implementation of sustainable oil palm plantations. Research was conducted on mature oil palm plantation the age of 17 years old, in Cikabayan University Farm, IPB Bogor, West Java, from March to August 2014. The results show that A. gangetica as cover crops on mature oil palm plantations able to increase organic matter and soil nutrients NPK availability, rapidly decompose (30 days), and faster the release of organic material and soil nutrients N, P, K, respectively 99.54%, 99.65%, 99.37%, 99.96% within 30 days.
